A jersey worn by basketball legend Michael Jordan has sold for $14 million, setting a record for basketball memorabilia.

The jersey — worn by Jordan, then of the Chicago Bulls, in an actual game during the 1998 NBA Finals — was sold at auction to Ron Furman, a real estate investor from Miami, according to AP.

AP said the sale price was the highest ever paid for a piece of basketball memorabilia.

Jordan wore the jersey in Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals on June 5, 1998 (local time). It bears his autograph.

Chicago defeated the Utah Jazz in that game to even the series at one win apiece.

Jordan memorabilia commands record prices

It is not the first time a Jordan jersey from his final championship run has fetched a large sum at auction.

In September 2022, a Chicago Bulls jersey top bearing Jordan's name and number 23 sold at Sotheby's for $10.1 million, according to Reuters and AFP.

Jordan had worn that jersey in Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals.

It became known as the "Last Dance jersey," a nod to the title of the 2020 ESPN and Netflix documentary chronicling the Bulls' sixth championship.

Twenty bidders took part in the auction.

Sotheby's had initially estimated the jersey would fetch between $3 million and $5 million, but the final sale price more than doubled that projection.

Last year, a card bearing the autographs of both Jordan and Kobe Bryant sold for $12.93 million, setting a record for the highest price ever paid for a sports trading card.
