The Korea Financial Investment Association is organizing an event to explore the potential applications of quantum computing — one of the most closely watched next-generation technologies — in the financial sector.

The association announced Monday that it will hold the "2026 Global Quantum Computing Industry Webinar" at 3 p.m. on Friday. The event aims to deepen understanding of emerging growth industries and identify new investment opportunities for executives and employees of financial investment firms, as well as the general public.

Quantum computing, alongside AI, has drawn growing attention as a next-generation core technology. In finance, it is expected to find applications in areas requiring complex computation, including portfolio optimization, asset allocation and risk management.

Jeremy Woo, senior technical advisor at Canadian quantum computing firm D-Wave Quantum, will serve as the keynote speaker. D-Wave Quantum, headquartered in Canada, has commercialized quantum annealing technology, which uses the principles of quantum mechanics to solve complex optimization problems.

Woo will introduce global quantum computing industry and technology trends, and outline key use cases in finance along with the outlook for future commercialization.

"Quantum computing is opening up new possibilities for the financial industry," said Kim Jin-eok, head of external policy at the Korea Financial Investment Association. "We hope this webinar will serve as an opportunity for financial investment firms to understand the changes brought by future technologies and explore new investment opportunities."

The webinar will be held via online video conference. Registration is open through Wednesday on the association's website. The event will be conducted in English with Korean subtitles provided.
