Gmarket is relocating its headquarters to Seongsu-dong in Seoul as part of a push to strengthen ties with customers and sellers.
The e-commerce company said Monday that employees had completed their first day at the new office, Starlit Seongsu N, an 11-story newly built structure where most floors — excluding ground-level retail — are dedicated to workspace. Senior leaders marked the occasion by handing out sirutteok, a traditional rice cake, to staff arriving for work.
The new office is designed around the concept of an "open space," reflecting the company's intent to stay attuned to emerging trends and engage more closely with customers and sellers. Internally, the design is meant to encourage free communication and collaboration across departments and seniority levels.
The seventh floor houses a live-commerce open studio equipped with basic broadcasting gear to support sellers in producing and hosting live-stream shows, with plans to expand in-person meetings and other exchanges with sellers. The building also features an in-house cafe staffed by a professional barista and a rooftop garden. A healthcare room with a full-time nurse offers emergency first aid as well as personalized consultations on weight management and smoking cessation.
"This is not simply a change of address — it is the starting point for reinventing the way Gmarket works and communicates," a company official said. "We will draw closer to our customers and sellers and use that as a springboard for a new leap forward."
