ISO 14067-based calculation and management system certified
Third-party verification by LRQA bolsters credibility
Proactive response to customers' EU Scope 3 requirements
Battery materials maker L&F said Monday it has received internationally standardized verification of the carbon footprint of its cathode material products.
L&F received a product carbon footprint verification statement based on the international standard ISO 14067 from global certification body LRQA at a ceremony held at its Daegu headquarters on Wednesday. The event was attended by Park Nam-won, head of L&F's strategic planning division, Lee Il-hyeong, head of LRQA's Korea branch, and other officials from both organizations.
L&F said the verification enables it to systematically calculate and manage carbon emissions at the product level, and establishes the external credibility needed to respond to global environmental regulations and customer requirements.
A product carbon footprint measures greenhouse gas emissions across a product's entire life cycle — from raw material procurement through energy use to waste and wastewater treatment. ISO 14067, established by the ISO in 2018, is the international standard for objectively measuring and reporting carbon footprints, based on life cycle assessment methodology. L&F built a carbon emissions calculation framework for its cathode materials in line with the standard, and secured the objectivity and reliability of its data through third-party verification by LRQA.
Carbon footprint data are a key metric that automakers and battery manufacturers use to manage emissions across their supply chains. As global environmental regulations tighten — including the EU's battery regulation — the metric is becoming a direct factor in product sales. L&F said the verification strengthens its regulatory compliance capabilities.
The company also said the verification is significant in that it establishes a baseline for actual emissions reduction activities, going beyond calculating carbon emissions by product. It added that the results are linked to the supply chain indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 3) calculation and verification findings first disclosed in its "2025 Sustainability Report" published this year, forming a foundation for proactively meeting customers' supply chain carbon data requirements.
L&F plans to refine its product-level carbon data using ABB's smart factory life cycle assessment system, and to systematically pursue emissions reduction across its production processes, energy use and raw material procurement.
"This product carbon footprint verification is an achievement that officially recognizes L&F's capability to manage carbon data in line with global standards," Park said. "We will continue to precisely manage life cycle assessment-based carbon emissions, advance our reduction activities, and contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of our products and building a sustainable battery supply chain."
L&F has secured technological leadership in the high-nickel cathode material sector — including becoming the world's first company to successfully mass-produce ultra-high-nickel cathode materials — and supplies products to South Korea's three major battery makers as well as global companies in North America and Europe. The company is further expanding its global market presence by broadening its product portfolio to include lithium iron phosphate cathode materials.
