A youth culture festival organized by out-of-school teenagers will be held in Gwangju on Wednesday.

The event brings together out-of-school youth, mentors and guardians from the Gwangju area to foster solidarity and celebrate young people's growth. A planning committee of 13 out-of-school teenagers took part in every stage of the process, from conception to preparation, ensuring the festival reflects their own voices.

Organized jointly by the South Jeolla-Gwangju integrated special city government and the Gwangju Out-of-School Youth Support Center, the festival will run from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Gwangju Student Education and Culture Center in Ssangchon-dong, Seo-gu.

The program includes an opening ceremony, hands-on experience booths, an exhibition and stage performances.

Six teams that advanced to the finals of an out-of-school youth competition will take the stage, and award-winning works from the exhibition category will be on display for attendees. An awards ceremony will honor top performers in the essay, performance and exhibition categories, with winners receiving citations from the mayor of the South Jeolla-Gwangju integrated special city.

To ensure out-of-school youth, guardians and members of the public can all join in, the festival will offer 28 hands-on booths and on-site events — including bookmark-making, mini-diffuser and fruit mochi crafting, stone diffuser workshops, personal color consultations, eye health checkups, a session on workplace rights for young workers, and virtual sports such as archery.
