North Gyeongsang Province and Bonghwa-gun held the 15th North Gyeongsang Province Governor's Cup Civil Servant Marathon at Bonghwa Euneo Songyi Theme Park on Friday.
About 350 civil servants from 16 cities and counties across the province took part, including North Gyeongsang Province Deputy Governor Hwang Myeong-seok and Bonghwa-gun County Chief Choi Ki-young, as well as participants from Pohang, Andong and other municipalities.
This year's event featured a single 10-kilometer short-course race. Participants ran against the backdrop of Bonghwa's natural scenery.
In the city and county team standings, Uljin-gun took first place and Gumi came in second.
In the men's individual race, Song Yeong-jun of Gumi crossed the finish line first, completing the course in 37 minutes. Song previously won the masters division at the 2024 Chuncheon Marathon.
In the women's race, Seong Jeong-suk of Uljin-gun claimed first place, finishing in 46 minutes.
Bonghwa-gun County Chief Choi Ki-young said in his welcoming remarks that he was "very pleased that civil servants representing North Gyeongsang Province and its cities and counties have gathered together in Bonghwa, a clean forest city, for this meaningful occasion of unity."
Deputy Governor Hwang, who competed in the race himself, said civil servants need to stay healthy and energetic to provide better administrative services to residents. "I hope this event serves as a time of unity — a chance to restore body and mind worn down by pressing work and to encourage one another," he said.
