The Gimcheon City Council held its second-half 2026 Youth Parliament Class on Thursday, bringing together 19 third- and fourth-grade students from Gaeryeong Elementary School.

The program was designed to give students a hands-on experience of how actual council proceedings work, featuring activities such as an OX quiz on parliamentary procedure, a question-and-answer session, one-minute free-speech segments, and a mock debate on a proposed agenda item.

During the OX quiz segment, students learned about the roles and key functions of local councils in an engaging and informative way. In the open Q&A session, they actively raised questions they had long been curious about and received answers.

The session culminated in a mock plenary of a children's assembly, where students delivered one-minute speeches before taking up the agenda item "School violence penalties should be strengthened" and participating in a structured debate for and against the motion.

Council Speaker Oh Se-gil said he hoped the Youth Parliament Class would serve as a meaningful opportunity for students to develop a friendly understanding of local government and learn the importance of democratic communication and decision-making.
