Gyeongbuk College of Science held its "2026 Community-Linked Hyeonam Cultural Festival" on Wednesday at the pine tree plaza and lawn plaza on campus, bringing together students and local residents to mark the school's 54th anniversary.
Held under the theme "Hyeonam Starlit Night — Youth Rhythms Connect the Community," the event was jointly organized by the student council and the student integrated support center.
The festival opened with a grand performance by a military band, followed by a makeup show, major-linked experience booths, the second KBC Daehangno Song Contest and a celebratory performance by a popular singer.
The song contest, which began at 6 p.m., drew eight teams selected through preliminary rounds open to enrolled students and high school students from the northern North Gyeongsang Province region. The competitors vied for a total prize pool of 2 million won ($1,490).
At "KBC Play Zone" stations set up across campus, students ran hands-on booths showcasing their departments and clubs — offering sessions on the Heimlich maneuver, sports taping and makeup.
Additional programs included keycap keyring making, personal color consultations, tarot readings and photo shoots, while five food trucks rounded out the offerings for students and local residents.
Gyeongbuk College of Science President Choi Jae-hyeok said the school would continue to actively support students in making the most of their college years and would expand opportunities to share cultural warmth with the local community.
