Coupang Inc will give 5,000 won in Coupang Cash to customers whose orders were canceled during an early-morning system outage. Coupang Eats, which suffered delivery disruptions at the same time, is also moving to compensate customers, restaurant owners and riders.

A system error struck Coupang starting around midnight Friday and lasted more than two hours, according to Yonhap. The outage also affected the company's internal network, disrupting logistics operations and deliveries and causing some orders to be canceled.

Coupang said it is notifying affected customers of the compensation details and payment process in stages. The Coupang Cash credits will be valid for six months from the date they are issued.

Coupang Eats was also hit, with food orders and deliveries coming to a halt. Some restaurants accepted orders but were unable to mark them as ready, while some riders arrived at restaurants only to find they could not retrieve the customer's delivery address.

Coupang Eats will give a 3,000-won coupon to customers whose food orders were canceled, and a 1,000-won coupon to those who attempted to place an order but were unable to complete it.

Compensation for riders will vary depending on how far along the delivery was when the outage hit. Riders whose accepted orders were canceled will receive 1,000 won if records confirm they had arrived at the restaurant; those who had already picked up the food before the order was canceled will receive the full delivery fee for that order. Payments will be made automatically on the next settlement date.

Coupang also plans to compensate restaurant owners for orders that were accepted and then canceled during the outage.
