Nowon-gu District Mayor Seo Jun-o attended the opening ceremony of the Seoul Eoulim Sports Center on Thursday afternoon, celebrating the launch of the new facility at its third-floor gymnasium.
The Seoul Eoulim Sports Center is Seoul's first integrated sports facility designed for people with and without disabilities to exercise and interact together. About 300 people attended the ceremony, including the Seoul Metropolitan Government's deputy mayor for political affairs, National Assembly lawmakers, city and district council members, and local residents.
The center features a 32-lane bowling alley built to international standards, capable of hosting professional training and domestic and international competitions, as well as a 10-lane swimming pool that includes four lanes dedicated to people with disabilities. Additional facilities include a children's pool, a temperature-regulation pool, an indoor gymnasium, multipurpose rooms and a fitness training area.
The ceremony opened with the national salute and introductions of guests, followed by a report on the construction process, a congratulatory video screening, and remarks from officials including an opening address and welcoming and congratulatory speeches.
"I hope the Seoul Eoulim Sports Center will become a place where people with and without disabilities come together to share health and vitality," District Mayor Seo said. "We will continue working to improve sports welfare so that all residents of the district can enjoy everyday sports activities without discrimination."
