A man in his 60s has been detained after allegedly sexually assaulting a 2-year-old girl and photographing the abuse.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Women and Juveniles Crime Investigation Unit said Thursday it had placed the man, identified only as A, under detention on charges of forcible indecent acts against a child under 13 under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes, and production of child sexual exploitation material under the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse.

A is accused of sexually assaulting the toddler and filming the abuse in the basement of a building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on Saturday.

Police arrested him on an emergency basis the same day and applied for an arrest warrant on Monday.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident by questioning both A and the victim.
