120 residents to attend Oct. 15 event at district office; lecture to cover AI's impact on the economy, industry and jobs
Gangnam-gu will host a special lecture featuring economics professor Park Jeong-ho at the main lobby of the district office on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
Held under the theme "The Great Economic Transformation: The AI Era and Our Future," the event will examine how artificial intelligence is set to reshape the economy, industry and the job market.
Organized by the Gangnam-gu Middle-Aged Digital Jobs Center, the lecture is designed to help residents understand the rapidly shifting landscape of technology and society and prepare for what lies ahead through expert insight.
Park will walk attendees through domestic and global economic and industrial trends in accessible terms, illustrating with real-world examples how the spread of AI will affect industrial structures and employment. The lecture will place particular emphasis on how middle-aged residents can draw on their accumulated experience and career histories to identify new work opportunities and chart a path forward.
The series launched on March 11, when demographer Professor Cho Young-tae examined shifts in population structure and the future of society. The second session, held June 17, featured Professor Choi Jae-bung speaking on survival strategies in the age of "AI sapiens" — covering how AI is transforming daily life and society and how to respond to the new era. This third installment broadens the discussion to the economy, industry and changes in employment.
The lecture is open to any Gangnam-gu resident with an interest in how AI is reshaping the economy and job market, including those considering re-employment or a career change. Registration is limited to the first 120 applicants and can be completed through the Middle-Aged Digital Jobs Center website or by scanning the QR code on posters and banners. For further details, contact the center directly.
"AI is no longer the exclusive domain of specific industries or specialists — it is at the center of a transformation reshaping work and life," Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyeon-gi said. "I hope this lecture gives residents the opportunity to read the changes unfolding in the economy and industry, and to prepare for a new future by drawing on their own experience and strengths."
