Korea District Heating announced Thursday it is running a community welfare program called "Woori Dongne Ongi Gadeuk" ("Warmth for Our Neighborhood") in partnership with the Korea Council of Social Welfare.

Now in its second year, the program supports residents and social economy organizations in tackling local energy and environmental challenges by providing project funding and management consulting — a community-driven corporate social responsibility initiative.

This year, Korea District Heating expanded the program nationwide to strengthen its impact and scalability.

Applications were accepted from June 22 to July 10, and candidates were evaluated through document and in-person reviews covering business plans, execution capacity and problem-solving ability. Four projects were ultimately selected: development of smart-farm growing media to reduce carbon emissions, production of tumblers made from recycled plastic, a shared bicycle rental service using discarded bikes, and an AI-based after-sales management system for heating and cooling equipment.

The four selected social economy organizations will receive phased project funding and tailored business consulting from management experts through December. A mid-term review at the end of this month will assess progress and goal attainment, while a year-end performance presentation will identify improvements to strengthen program management.
