783 applicants vie for 195 spots, up from last year's 2.45-to-1 ratio; first written exam set for Nov. 7
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced Thursday that 783 candidates applied for 195 positions — including four at private institutions — in the 2027 academic year competitive hiring exam for public and private kindergarten, elementary school and special education teachers, yielding an average competition ratio of 4.02 to 1. The figure marks an increase from last year, when 752 applicants competed for 307 positions at an average ratio of 2.45 to 1.
In the kindergarten category, 156 candidates applied for eight general positions, a ratio of 19.5 to 1, while one candidate applied for the single slot reserved for applicants with disabilities. For elementary school teachers, 531 applicants competed for 161 general positions — including one at a private school — at 3.3 to 1, and 14 candidates applied for 13 positions set aside for applicants with disabilities, a ratio of 1.08 to 1.
In the special education category, 32 candidates applied for five general kindergarten positions — including three at private schools — at a ratio of 6.4 to 1. For special education at the elementary level, 46 candidates applied for six general positions at 7.67 to 1, and three candidates applied for one position reserved for applicants with disabilities.
The office will announce the locations for the first written exam on its website at 10 a.m. on Oct. 30, with the exam itself scheduled for Nov. 7. Further details are available in the notices section under the "News & Recruitment" tab on the office's website.
