Police investigating allegations that political broker "Geonjin Beopsa" Jeon Seong-bae brokered a park development project in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, raided Uiwang City Hall on Thursday.
The Korean National Police Agency's dedicated investigation team — which handles cases transferred from the three standing special prosecutor offices covering insurrection, Kim Keon Hee and the marine's death in service — said it began search and seizure operations Thursday morning at the office and residence of Uiwang Mayor Kim Seong-je.
"We cannot disclose the specific charges as the investigation is ongoing," police said.
The raid is connected to allegations that Jeon received money from a company in exchange for brokering the Mumin Park project within the Baegwun Valley urban development zone in Uiwang. The case is one of the remaining matters transferred to police after the Kim Keon Hee special prosecutor team, led by Special Prosecutor Min Jung-ki, concluded its activities.
Police have continued investigating some of the cases handed over from the three special prosecutor offices since late December last year.
