A special showing of the 'Visiting Culture Concert' series tied to the 31st Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival — set for Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Forest Stage of the Amsa-dong Historic Site in Seoul
Gangdong-gu in Seoul will host a talk concert featuring legendary Go player Lee Se-dol, titled "Lee Se-dol Talk Concert: The Divine Move," on Oct. 18 at the Forest Stage of the Amsa-dong Historic Site.
The event is a special showing in the district's ongoing Visiting Culture Concert series, organized in conjunction with the Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival. Residents and visitors attending the festival will have the chance to interact directly with Lee, a 9-dan professional, and hear him speak about Go and life.
Lee will share stories from his career in Go — including his experience playing against the artificial intelligence program AlphaGo — and reflect on the countless decisions he made across the board. He will also draw a parallel between choosing a move in Go and the moments of choice people face in everyday life, inviting the audience to think about the meaning of challenge, decision and judgment.
Actor and broadcaster Park Jae-min will serve as host. Active as an emcee across a range of broadcasts and events, Park will guide a natural conversation with Lee and help the audience get answers to their questions.
The talk concert begins at 2 p.m. and is open to about 130 participants through advance and on-site registration. Organizers will also collect questions for Lee from advance registrants ahead of time, with answers given during the event, so attendees can engage more actively in the conversation.
"This talk concert is a special program we put together by linking the 31st Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival with the Visiting Culture Concert series, so that residents can enjoy the festival even more fully," Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said. "I hope it will be a time to reflect on the meaning of challenge and choice through Lee Se-dol's experiences and stories, and to enjoy a cultural festival together with family."
The 31st Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival runs for three days, from Oct. 16 through Oct. 18, under the theme "The Origin of Seoul, Amsa," at the Amsa-dong Historic Site and Amsa History Park. The program includes opening and closing performances, a media facade, a prehistoric barbecue experience, a Neolithic archaeology school for children, and a range of other hands-on activities and side events.
Registration for the talk concert and further details about the festival are available on the Gangdong-gu district office website. Additional inquiries can be directed to the district office's Culture and Arts Division.
