A man in his 30s who sneaked into an acquaintance's home and stole tens of millions of won in cash and valuables has been arrested by police in Ulsan.

The Ulsan Nambu Police Station detained the suspect, identified only as A, on charges of theft and residential burglary, Newsis reported Tuesday.

A is accused of breaking into the home of B, a man in his 20s, on Sept. 28 and stealing cash, a gold watch, gold bracelets and other items worth a total of 33 million won ($24,600).

The two men met and became acquainted while serving time in a detention facility, investigators said. After his release, A visited B's home on multiple occasions and is believed to have memorized the front door passcode during those visits.

B discovered the theft and filed a report with police on the night of Sept. 30. Officers arrested A in the early hours of Thursday — just four hours after receiving the call — and placed him in detention the following day.

Police are continuing to investigate the precise circumstances of the case.
