District discusses 15 key issues across five vision areas, pledges cooperation on securing national and city funding
Seoul Arena tourism zone designation, cultural and tourism industry development to be jointly pursued
Dobong-gu held its first party-government council of the ninth elected administration Friday at the district office's Ssial Hall on the ninth floor, bringing together officials from the Democratic Party of Korea's Dobong-gap and Dobong-eul constituency committees to discuss ways to revitalize the local economy around Seoul Arena and address key district issues.
About 60 people attended, including Dobong-gu District Mayor Kim Dong-wook, Assembly member Oh Ki-hyung (Dobong-eul), Lee Gil-yeon, acting chair of the Dobong-gap constituency committee, Seoul Metropolitan Council and district council members, constituency committee officials, and district office civil servants.
Dobong-gu shared its five core governance visions under the "Dobong Great Transformation" initiative — the Changdong economic engine, future transportation and residential innovation, public site development and spatial innovation, education and smart welfare, and resident sovereignty and innovative administration — and discussed cooperation on 15 key issues, including securing national and city government funding and improving relevant systems.
The party and district government agreed to make the development of cultural and tourism industries centered on Seoul Arena, along with the revitalization of the Changdong economy, their top priorities, and to work together to spread the economic benefits across the entire district.
To that end, they agreed to jointly pursue designation of a "Seoul Arena Tourism Zone" and to expand accommodation, transportation, tourist information and other infrastructure, as well as tourism content, ahead of Seoul Arena's opening. They also discussed creating a stay-and-explore tourism environment linking Changdong Station, Seoul Arena, local commercial districts and Dobongsan.
"Seoul Arena must be pursued as a shared task for all of Dobong," Assembly member Oh said, adding that he would "cooperate in securing support from the central government and Seoul Metropolitan Government for the tourism zone designation and infrastructure development."
District Mayor Kim said Seoul Arena is "a new growth engine that will transform Dobong's industries, jobs, culture and tourism," and pledged to "prepare so that its benefits flow through to local businesses and residents' incomes." He added that the district would "work closely with the party to ensure all residents feel the results of the Dobong Great Transformation and push forward key projects with momentum."
Dobong-gu plans to continue working-level consultations between the district government and the party to monitor progress on major projects and maintain follow-up cooperation on securing national and city funding and improving relevant systems.
