BGF Retail announced Wednesday that it has unveiled "SD CU Good Friend," a new font embodying the brand image of its CU convenience store chain, ahead of Hangul Day.

The font was jointly developed by BGF Retail and Sandol, an AI content platform company. The two companies signed an MOU in January.

The font features a stable structure optimized for digital environments and comfortable readability. Soft curves and slightly upward-tilting strokes give it a bright, friendly appearance. It was designed to work across a wide range of sizes and formats, from product packaging and promotional materials to in-store signage.

CU plans to roll out the font across various channels in stages, starting with online platforms including its Pocket CU app and Instagram. From next month, the rollout will expand to offline applications such as in-store promotional materials. The font will also be applied to product packaging across a range of categories going forward.

On Tuesday, CU launched "Initial Macaron" (3,600 won), a macaron inspired by the consonant shapes of the font. In December, the chain plans to release "Challenge Snack," an elongated snack featuring random phrases printed in the new font.

CU has also prepared a promotional event. Starting Friday — Hangul Day — the font will be available for free download for three months through the Sandol Cloud website. Users who share phrases written in the font on social media will be entered into a draw to win CU mobile gift vouchers.

"This font expresses CU's greeting to its customers in a single typeface — it is our official font, capturing CU's uniquely bright and friendly image," said Lee Eun-gwan, head of BGF Retail's customer experience division. "We will introduce it in various ways so that customers can try it themselves and encounter it naturally through our products and content."
