Bucheon City will significantly improve the living environment and recreational spaces of residents who have long faced restrictions under greenbelt zone designations.
The city secured 1.6 billion won ($1.18 million) in state funding after both of its applications were selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2027 Greenbelt Zone Resident Support Project grant competition.
Combined with 400 million won from the city's own budget, the total project cost will reach 2 billion won.
The two selected projects are the Yeokgokcheon Railway Leisure Greenway and the Ojong Grand Park Revitalization, described as a park "filled with light and rest."
The Yeokgokcheon Railway Leisure Greenway project will transform idle land along a railway line into walking paths, green spaces and gardens.
The Ojong Grand Park Revitalization project focuses on upgrading existing park facilities and improving nighttime lighting to enhance the comfort of residents' rest areas.
The city underwent on-site inspections by evaluation committees from the ministry and Gyeonggi Province in June and incorporated feedback raised during the review process, ultimately securing final selection.
The city plans to include the relevant budget in its 2027 main budget and complete both projects within 2027 after carrying out detailed design and other procedures.
