The Gangwon Science and Technology Festival, featuring humanoid robot performances and science experiment shows, will be held at Chuncheon City Hall Plaza on Friday and Saturday.

The event is co-hosted by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and Chuncheon, and organized by the Gangwon Research and Development Support Foundation.

The festival gives residents a single venue to encounter cutting-edge science and technology, and aims to broaden public engagement with science culture through hands-on programming.

Now in its 11th edition, the festival carries the slogan "Gangwon Science and AI Festival for All," offering visitors an accessible and entertaining way to experience future technologies and AI.

Throughout the two-day event, visitors can take part in humanoid robot performances, science experiment shows, a youth science quiz competition and a science-themed costume contest. Booths run by more than 30 innovation institutions, universities, science museums and other organizations will offer direct exposure to advanced technologies.

Talk concerts will also be held, featuring popular science YouTuber Sudeuragon Maker and astronomer Shim Chae-kyung. The sessions will cover the themes "The Future That AI and Making Will Create Together" and "A Familiar Yet Alien Place: The Moon."

The opening ceremony Friday morning at 11 a.m. will include the presentation of the Gangwon Science and Technology Award and the Chuncheon Science and Technology Merit Award, recognizing researchers and entrepreneurs who have contributed to the region's scientific and technological development.

This year's honorees were recognized for achievements across a range of fields, including region-specific research and development, nurturing future talent, international cooperation, and the development and commercialization of core biotech and green biotech technologies — contributions that have strengthened Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province's scientific competitiveness and industrial growth. Further details are available on the festival's official website at gstipf.

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Governor Woo Sang-ho said science, technology and AI are "the core growth engines that will lead Gangwon's future," adding that he hopes the festival will serve as "a special space where all residents can easily and enjoyably experience future technologies and where science becomes part of everyday life."
