Parata Air announced Tuesday that it will operate twice-weekly scheduled flights — on Mondays and Fridays — between Yangyang International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport in China, beginning sometime in December. The airline plans to deploy an A320-200 on the route, with the exact launch date to be confirmed in October following consultations with relevant authorities.

Parata Air resumed domestic scheduled service at Yangyang airport last September with the launch of a Yangyang–Jeju route. The new Shanghai service will extend the airport's reach to international destinations.

The airline expects the route to both improve travel convenience for Gangwon Province residents heading abroad and serve as a new inbound gateway for Chinese tourists traveling directly to the region.

Shanghai is one of China's leading economic and tourism hubs and a city with strong people-to-people ties with South Korea. A direct air link between Yangyang and Shanghai is expected to significantly improve access for Chinese visitors to major East Coast attractions, including Seoraksan, Sokcho, Yangyang and Gangneung, as well as Gangwon Province more broadly.

Beyond simply adding a new route, Parata Air said it plans to work with Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and local tourism industry partners to ensure that international visitors arriving through Yangyang airport translate their trips into actual tourism spending, accommodation stays and broader economic activity in the region.

Through these efforts, the airline aims to help restore Yangyang International Airport's international functions while contributing to the revitalization of Gangwon's tourism industry and local economy.

"It is significant that we are now able to expand the air links we restarted at Yangyang airport — through the Yangyang–Jeju route — to international destinations," a Parata Air official said. "We will work to ensure the Shanghai route becomes a more convenient overseas travel option for Gangwon residents and a new gateway for international visitors to discover the diverse attractions Gangwon has to offer."

"We will continue to work closely with local communities and relevant agencies to contribute to the revitalization of Yangyang International Airport, the expansion of tourism demand in Gangwon Province, and the growth of the regional economy," the official added.

Meanwhile, Parata Air has been carrying out a range of corporate social responsibility activities in support of the aviation industry. Most recently, the airline held a crew training class for 61 participants at the Yuhan University–Parata Air Joint Training Center, including aviation service students currently enrolled at Yuhan University and high school seniors hoping to pursue careers in the field.
