About 100 residents gathered at the Ichon 1-dong Yongsan Youth Center basketball court on Friday for an outdoor screening of the animated musical 'Sing'
Yongsan-gu in Seoul hosted its "Woori Dongne Moonlight Cinema" outdoor film event Friday at the basketball court of the Yongsan Youth Center in Ichon 1-dong as part of its "Culture in the Streets" project.
The event was designed to give residents a chance to enjoy culture with their families close to home, without having to travel far. About 100 residents from Ichon 1-dong turned out to watch the animated musical film "Sing" under the cool autumn sky.
A hands-on activity space for children was also set up at the venue. Before the screening began, children took part in balloon art and keychain-making using spent coffee grounds. Families spent the evening enjoying both the film and the craft activities together.
The film was screened in a low-noise "silent cinema" format, with moviegoers listening through wireless headsets. The approach minimized noise disturbance for nearby residential areas while allowing moviegoers to stay fully immersed in the film.
Residents who attended shared their impressions. "It was convenient and wonderful to be able to watch a movie with my family so close to home," one said. Another said their children were already having fun before the film even started, thanks to the balloon art and coffee-ground keychain activities. A third said watching a film with neighbors on a cool autumn evening felt special and warm.
The district has held the Woori Dongne Moonlight Cinema four times this year — three screenings at Hyochang Park and one in Ichon 1-dong — drawing about 800 residents in total. Building on the strong community response, the district plans to consistently develop community-oriented cultural programs that residents can enjoy close to home.
Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae, who visited the event to meet with residents, said he hoped the evening gave families a chance to make autumn memories together and share warmth with their neighbors. "We will continue to organize community-based cultural events so that residents can enjoy culture right where they live," he said.
