Korea Zinc's Onsan smelter announced Tuesday that it had carried out its third-quarter joint public-private volunteer activity at Suyeon Rehabilitation Center, a care and rehabilitation facility for children with severe disabilities located in Ulju-gun, Ulsan.

The activity, held Wednesday, was organized as part of a "one company, one facility" volunteer partnership agreement the smelter signed with Ulsan Metropolitan City in March last year. Under the agreement, the Onsan smelter has been making regular quarterly visits to Suyeon Rehabilitation Center.

In January this year, new employees visited the center as part of their orientation program to carry out a facility cleanup. In March, employees and Ulsan city civil servants volunteered together. In July, union members and other employees returned for another round of cleanup work.

Particularly notable this time was the participation of about 30 people — labor and management representatives from the Onsan smelter as well as civil servants from Ulsan city's culture and arts division — marking the second joint public-private effort since March. Timed to the change of seasons, participants cleaned and stored electric fans used during the summer. They also scrubbed window frames requiring careful attention and tidied shared spaces in hard-to-reach areas of the facility, helping create a more comfortable living environment for the children who use it.

Beyond this cleanup, the Onsan smelter plans to continue providing various forms of support for the facility's operations as part of its commitment to the local community. It also intends to strengthen cooperation with local welfare facilities by maintaining quarterly volunteer activities and offering tailored support.

"We will continue to listen closely to local welfare facilities, carefully identify what is needed on the ground, and do our utmost to fulfill our social responsibilities as a company that stands alongside the community," an Onsan smelter official said.

Meanwhile, the Onsan smelter has been carrying out a range of community-focused social contribution activities, including adopting a stretch of coastline in Ulju-gun for regular cleanups, running a blood donation campaign to address local blood supply shortages, and donating white rice to the Ulju Senior Welfare Center.
