The North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education said Tuesday it will donate a total of 485 computers to the Central African Republic, Mongolia and Ethiopia to improve digital learning environments for students in developing countries.

This year, the office will provide 200 refurbished R computers each to the Central African Republic and Mongolia, and supply 85 new desktop computers to Ethiopia.

R computers are refurbished machines selected from decommissioned units at schools and educational institutions, then restored through parts replacement, performance upgrades and software installation.

The provincial education office collects and refurbishes computers previously used at schools and educational institutions before redistributing them to classrooms abroad, practicing resource recycling while giving students in developing countries access to digital learning.

The education cooperation with the Central African Republic is a notable example of private-sector exchange expanding into public educational partnership. Ajin Industry covered the full local transportation costs for the 200 R computers being sent there this year.

The North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education has maintained educational cooperation ties with the Central African Republic, Mongolia and Ethiopia since 2024.

Including this year's planned donations, the total number of computers provided to the three countries stands at 2,414 — 1,051 to the Central African Republic, 750 to Mongolia and 613 to Ethiopia.

The office plans to strengthen international education cooperation so that the donated equipment can be used in teaching and learning activities in developing countries.

"We hope the computers our students once used will open new doors to learning for students on the other side of the world," said Im Jong-sik, superintendent of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education.
