The Gyeongju Solgeo Art Museum, operated by the North Gyeongsang Province Culture and Tourism Corporation, announced Tuesday it will hold the "2026 Contemporary Art Exhibition" featuring artist Kwon Jeong-sun through March 7 next year.

The exhibition introduces Kwon's artistic world through three genres of "minhwa," or Korean folk painting — chaekgado (paintings of bookshelves and scholarly objects), eohaedo (paintings of fish) and hwajodo (paintings of flowers and birds).

Chaekgado reflects ancestors' aspirations for learning and knowledge, eohaedo embodies wishes for freedom and success, and hwajodo captures the warm sentiments of ordinary people who sought peace and happiness.

Kwon, a leading regional minhwa artist, has spent years researching and practicing the art form while working to raise awareness of minhwa and expand its reach across the Yeongnam region.

She consistently presents the beauty and value of minhwa by faithfully carrying on the traditional subjects and symbolism of the genre while adding her own distinctive formal interpretation.

"Minhwa needs no explanation — it is not difficult, and anyone can understand it with their heart," Kwon said. "Through this exhibition, I hope visitors will naturally feel the stories and emotions of our lives embedded in minhwa."
