The Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association has donated 5 million won ($3,680) — raised through an employee fundraising campaign — to support flood victims in Nepal.

The association said Tuesday it delivered the funds to Good Neighbors International on Saturday to help displaced Nepali residents with emergency relief and recovery efforts.

The money was collected through an internal campaign in which staff contributed to aid those who lost their homes. Channeled through Good Neighbors, the funds will provide emergency relief supplies and food to flood-affected households and support recovery programs for vulnerable children and other displaced residents.

Association Chairman Jang Geon said the situation calls for deep reflection. "The reality that countries with relatively little responsibility for the carbon emissions driving the climate crisis are bearing a disproportionately heavy burden demands serious soul-searching from all of us," he said.

He added that he hoped the donation would offer some comfort to Nepal's communities, saying it was raised in the spirit of "gyeomae" — the principle that treating others' pain as one's own and helping one another, rather than thinking only of oneself, benefits everyone.
