The Daegu Dong-gu Cultural Foundation announced Monday that Kwon Ki-il has taken office as its new chief executive, beginning a two-year term effective Thursday.
Kwon earned a graduate degree in business administration from Kyungpook National University and went on to serve two terms as a Daegu city lawmaker — the fifth and sixth — engaging directly with local issues and residents' concerns.
He also served as director of external affairs at the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education and lectured in business administration at a university, building expertise in public administration and management.
On his first day in office, Kwon received his letter of appointment from Dong-gu District Mayor Woo Seong-jin before formally beginning his duties.
Meeting with staff at the foundation that day, Kwon said it was time to make full use of Dong-gu's distinctive assets — including Palgongsan and the Geumho River — to deliver cultural programming that meets residents' evolving expectations. "I will be a chief executive who listens above all to the voices from the ground," he said.
