Seoul's first dedicated Seoul Fitness Center opens at the Bongcheon-area public health center, strengthening one-stop links to metabolic syndrome management — Gwanak-gu is the only district in Seoul operating both a health-management-type Seoul Fitness Center and a fitness-certification-type National Fitness 100 center.
Gwanak-gu opened Seoul's first dedicated Seoul Fitness Center on Friday to strengthen its integrated health and fitness management infrastructure for residents.
The Seoul Fitness Center is located on the second floor of the Gwanak-gu Public Health Center in the Bongcheon area, making it the district's second fitness management hub following the Gwanak Fitness Certification Center in the Sillim area, which opened in the first half of this year.
The center provides a one-stop system linked to metabolic syndrome management and introduces scientific fitness-measurement equipment for older residents, with a focus on strengthening integrated health and fitness management so that residents can check their physical condition and receive personalized exercise guidance.
Gwanak-gu is the only district in Seoul to operate both a health-management-type Seoul Fitness Center and a fitness-certification-type National Fitness 100 Certification Center, giving residents the convenience of getting fitness assessments and personalized health management in one place nearby.
Fitness assessments cover body measurements including BMI, blood pressure and body composition, as well as core health indicators such as muscular strength, cardiorespiratory endurance and flexibility, and functional performance measures including agility and explosive power. Based on the results, residents receive individual consultations to help them understand their fitness level and learn appropriate exercise methods.
Residents who have used the center responded positively, saying they were able to get a clear picture of their physical condition. One participant said, "It was great to learn exercise methods suited to my fitness level so I could work out without overdoing it. The points benefits were a nice bonus, and I think I'll be coming back regularly."
The center is free for Gwanak-gu residents aged 19 and older and Seoul residents in the area. Reservations open on the 1st and 16th of each month at 1 p.m. through the "Sonmok Doctor 9988" app. Walk-ins and phone reservations are also accepted for remaining slots, and the center is conveniently accessible by subway.
Visitors should bring a photo ID, workout clothes and indoor athletic shoes, and arrive at least 10 minutes before their reserved time. For more information, contact the Gwanak Fitness Certification Center or the Seoul Fitness Center at Gwanak-gu Public Health Center.
The district plans to continue expanding opportunities for residents to measure and manage their fitness close to home, with the Seoul Fitness Center at the core of those efforts.
Gwanak-gu also plans to establish an AI-based fitness measurement zone offering a range of services — including posture, gait and running motion analysis in addition to standard fitness assessments — and to further strengthen its fitness management system in coordination with the public health center.
"I believe health is the most important condition for a happy life," Gwanak-gu District Mayor Park Jun-hee said. "I hope the Seoul Fitness Center becomes a starting point for residents to accurately assess their fitness level and manage their health in a systematic way. We will continue to expand health and community sports infrastructure to support residents' healthy and active daily lives."
