Actor Choi Kang-hee has revealed that she is still living at a friend's home — and that the friend's mother delivers home-cooked meals to her door every morning.
The update came Saturday on MBC's "Jeonjijeokin Chamgyeon Sijeom," according to Star Today.
Choi had already shown viewers in May that she was staying at a friend's place rather than her own home, which at the time appeared to be a brief arrangement. But she was still there Saturday — and when co-host Yang Se-hyeong asked whether it was not supposed to be a short stay, Choi drew laughs by replying, "It's until December."
What surprised viewers even more was the daily "room service" waiting at her door. An insulated bag left at the entrance each morning was packed with carefully prepared dishes — boiled pork, green onion kimchi and beef radish soup. Choi explained that the friend's mother, who lives nearby, brings the food every morning. "The homeowner is my friend, right? Her mother lives close by and always brings meals over in the morning, like room service," she said.
The modest lifestyle fits a pattern of quiet generosity Choi has shown over the years. She made headlines when it emerged that she had donated about 500 million won ($368,000) — a fact that became public only belatedly. Her own agency had not known the details, so discreetly had she kept it.
Her charitable work goes further. She has donated proceeds from an essay collection, taken part in a charity bazaar for single mothers and donated bone marrow for a leukemia patient.
In July, she joined a 6-kilometer charity run to raise funds for clean drinking water for children in Africa. She reportedly trained by running while carrying a water jug, to experience firsthand the reality children face when fetching water.
