Dalseo-gu in Daegu held the 20th Dalseo Half Marathon on Sunday at Horim Gangnaru Park inside the Seoseo Industrial Complex, drawing marathon enthusiasts from across the country alongside local residents.
A record 10,455 runners participated, the highest turnout in the event's history.
The competition featured three categories: a half marathon, a 10-kilometer course and a 5-kilometer course.
The half marathon and 10-kilometer routes followed the riverside road along the Geumho River, while the 5-kilometer course ran along the embankment path crossing Daemyeong Reservoir and Dalseong Wetland.
Participants ran through stretches of cosmos flowers blooming along the routes, taking in the autumn atmosphere with family, friends and acquaintances.
The event drew more than 10,000 participants for the second consecutive year, cementing its reputation as one of the country's premier marathon competitions.
Dalseo-gu made several improvements to the event this year, focusing on participant convenience and safe operations.
Existing neighborhood booths were converted into rest areas for runners, and the layout of various operational booths was reorganized to streamline foot traffic and minimize on-site congestion, with safety as the top priority.
In addition, the district changed its food service approach, replacing the noodles previously served with pre-packaged snack bundles based on participant preferences.
The switch also helped reduce disposable waste and food scraps, cutting resource waste throughout the event as part of the district's push for eco-friendly practices and carbon neutrality.
Dalseo-gu District Mayor Kim Yong-pan said the district would continue working to develop the Dalseo Half Marathon into an even better competition that marathon enthusiasts from across the country will want to attend.
