The North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly announced Sunday that it formed a special committee on the administrative integration of North Gyeongsang Province and Daegu during its 366th regular session, aiming to counter the concentration of population and resources in the greater Seoul area and create a locally driven growth hub.

The special committee is chaired by Lee Chun-woo, with Kim Il-su serving as vice chair. Its membership includes Yeon Gyu-sik, Lee Dong-eop, Choi Deok-gyu, Choi Byeong-geun, Kim Dae-jin, Kim Chang-hyeok, Im Mu-seok, Song Byeong-gil, Kim Chang-gi, Lee Cheol-sik, Kim Su-mun, Shin Hyo-gwang, Yun Cheol-nam, Hwang Jae-cheol, Lee Jong-pyeong, No Seong-hwan, Do Hui-jae, Jeong Han-seok, Kim Jae-hwan, Kim Sang-hui, Kim Jae-jun and Jeong Yun-tae.

With a unified special city targeted for launch in 2028, the committee will closely analyze key issues and challenges in the integration process and conduct thorough reviews as the push for unification moves into full swing.

"The administrative integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province is a critical turning point that will determine the future, amid the concentration of resources in the greater Seoul area and the stagnation of regional economies," said Lee Chun-woo, the committee chair representing Yeongcheon. "The committee will broadly reflect the diverse opinions of provincial residents and seek a rational, widely accepted direction for integration."
