Dongguk University WISE Campus held a sculpture construction fund donation ceremony Friday at the university council meeting room in the Centennial Memorial Hall on campus.
The event was attended by Alumni Association President Moon Sun-bae, Buddhist monk Haeun Sunim, other alumni association and Wonbeopsa Temple representatives, President Ryu Wan-ha and key university administrators.
Alumni Association President Moon and Haeun Sunim, the head monk of Wonbeopsa Temple in Pohang, each donated 50 million won ($36,800) to President Ryu, bringing the total contribution to 100 million won for the sculpture project.
The funds are intended to support construction of a sculpture embodying the symbolic identity and future vision of Dongguk University WISE Campus.
Moon contributed in hopes of advancing both the university and its alumni community, while Haeun Sunim donated to support the campus's continued growth and new development.
"I am delighted to contribute to the sculpture project at a time when Dongguk University marks its 120th anniversary and WISE Campus approaches its half-century milestone," Moon said. Haeun Sunim said she hoped the new sculpture would "remain for a long time as a symbol that gives students strength and comfort as they pursue their studies and move toward their futures."
President Ryu said the university would "create a symbolic sculpture that captures the university's history and future vision, so that the spirit of this donation is well conveyed to students and alumni."
