The group will study how AI technology is reshaping local government and how Gwangjin-gu should respond — with a focus on strengthening lawmakers' policy analysis and administrative oversight through AI

The Gwangjin-gu Council AI Policy Research Group held its inaugural ceremony and kickoff briefing Thursday at the third floor of the Gwangjin-gu Council building, formally launching its research activities.

The ceremony was attended by six members — Representative Member Jang Ji-eun, Gang Il, who leads his party's side on the committee, and members Go Yang-seok, Shin Jin-ho, Seo Min-woo and Choi Dong-su — along with officials from the research service agency.

The group aims to explore ways to effectively incorporate AI into legislative activities in response to the changing local government environment brought on by the spread of AI technology, and to strengthen the council's capacity for policy analysis and administrative oversight as a means of charting a path forward for Gwangjin-gu's administration.

The group plans to conduct AI education and hands-on training sessions for council members, examine case studies and policy trends in public-sector AI use, and develop practical applications for legislative work.

In addition, the group intends to use findings from its research to identify AI utilization strategies suited to Gwangjin-gu's conditions and to explore policy and institutional tasks aimed at advancing local government.

"AI is already changing the way work gets done at the administrative level," said Jang, the representative member. "Since the council's capabilities directly shape the quality of administration, we will make sure our council understands and uses AI first to raise the professionalism of our legislative activities — and from there, think together about the direction Gwangjin-gu's administration should take."

The Gwangjin-gu Council AI Policy Research Group comprises six members — Representative Member Jang Ji-eun, Gang Il and lawmakers Go Yang-seok, Shin Jin-ho, Seo Min-woo and Choi Dong-su — and is scheduled to continue its research activities through Nov. 30.
