Gangnam-gu announced Thursday that it held the "2026 Second-Half Gangnam District Mayor Cup Walking Event for People with Developmental Disabilities."

The event took place Wednesday at Semiwon in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, drawing 120 participants including people with developmental disabilities and their personal care assistants.

Five organizations also took part: Chunghyeon Welfare Center's Vision University, the Chunghyeon Middle and Older Adult Support Team, the Yeoksam Day Care Center, Segok Middle School and the Sungmo Vocational Training Team. The district recruited participants from welfare organizations serving people with developmental disabilities, giving priority to institutions that had not previously taken part. Participants ranged from middle school students to middle-aged and older adults, allowing people across generations to mingle.

Participants toured major attractions at Semiwon — including Gahwajeong, the Jangdokdae Fountain and Baengnyeonji — before crossing a pontoon bridge and walking together to Dumulmeori. Rather than a competitive format, the event encouraged everyone to complete the course at their own pace, and finishers received a medal.

A group photo mission was held along the route, giving participants a chance to work together, capture memories and connect naturally. The activity was designed to let people enjoy physical exercise while building closer bonds with one another.

"I hope participants of all ages were able to walk through the autumn scenery together and create happy memories," Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyun-ki said. "We will consistently create opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to enjoy recreational sports and meet and interact with one another."
