The Busan Port Authority visited the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore on Thursday, meeting with Deputy Director-General Tan Hoe Soon to discuss data linkage for optimizing vessel port calls — known as Port Call Optimization, or PCO — between the two ports, as well as ways to expand cooperation in digital and eco-friendly areas.

The meeting was arranged to review progress on data linkage work that officials from both agencies have been pursuing since April and to build momentum for upcoming pilot testing and on-site implementation.

The two agencies are working to link their respective port community systems — Busan Port's Chainportal and Singapore Port's OCEANS-X — to exchange vessel call information, including scheduled and actual arrival and departure times.

Since agreeing on data linkage in April, the two sides have finalized the scope of information to be exchanged and the method of system connection, and have proceeded with development and testing. They are currently conducting a final accuracy check on the data exchange and plan to apply it to live operations before the end of the year, pending a security review.

At the meeting, both agencies agreed to complete the PCO pilot and develop the inter-port data exchange into a model for spreading the Busan-Singapore cooperation framework to ports around the world. They also discussed cooperation in eco-friendly and decarbonization initiatives.

"The cooperation between Busan Port and Singapore Port is moving beyond simple exchanges to deliver tangible results that lay the groundwork for system linkage and inter-port data standardization," said Song Sang-geun of the Busan Port Authority.

Meanwhile, the Busan Port Authority also visited the headquarters of PSA International, where it met with CEO Ong Kim Pong to exchange views on global port operation trends and ways to improve terminal operation efficiency.
