Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun attended the launch ceremony Thursday morning for a dedicated task force to accelerate redevelopment and reconstruction projects in the district, marking the unit's official start of operations.
The task force puts into action a plan that Yoo approved as his first official act after taking office in July under the ninth round of local elections. It was established to provide close, on-the-ground support for urban renewal projects across the district and to build a rapid-response system.
The unit will consolidate what had been a fragmented, department-by-department management structure, identifying difficulties at project sites and mediating resident disputes so that renewal work can proceed smoothly.
Led by the head of the housing division, the task force comprises two specialists with hands-on administrative experience in redevelopment and reconstruction. Going forward, it will hold monthly meetings with project sites and conduct field visits and interviews with residents and associations to hear concerns directly.
"The push for rapid redevelopment and reconstruction that began with my first approval as district mayor has now entered full implementation with today's task force launch," Yoo said. "Please make every effort to listen directly to residents and associations, work through the challenges one by one, and keep these renewal projects moving forward."
