Doosan Enerbility announced Thursday that it has signed a contract worth about 840 billion won ($620 million) with Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) to build the O Mon 3 combined-cycle gas power plant.

Under the project, Doosan Enerbility will form a consortium with PTSC, a PVN subsidiary and Vietnam-based energy services company, to carry out full engineering, procurement and construction work. The company will also supply the steam turbine, a core component of the plant.

It marks the first time a Doosan Enerbility steam turbine will be used at a combined-cycle gas power plant in Vietnam.

The O Mon 3 plant will be built within the same power complex as the O Mon 4 plant, which Doosan Enerbility won the contract for last year. The site is located about 180 kilometers southwest of Ho Chi Minh City.

The plant will have a total generation capacity of 1,155 MW and is scheduled to be completed in 2030. Once operational, it is expected to help stabilize electricity supply in southern Vietnam.

Lee Sung-yeol, head of plant EPC sales at Doosan Enerbility, said the company plans to pursue further contract wins in Vietnam's power generation market, building on the successful execution of the O Mon 3 and 4 projects. "PVN, the project owner, is planning to scale up combined-cycle gas capacity at the O Mon complex in southern Vietnam as well as in the central and northern parts of the country," he said.

Including this contract, Doosan Enerbility has won a total of five combined-cycle gas power plant construction projects at home and abroad so far this year, with a combined value of about 3.87 trillion won.
