Product strategy guided by Samsung Fashion Institute research and SSF Shop data
SSF Shop lightweight padding purchases double; portfolio broadened across brands
Samsung C&T's fashion division announced Thursday it will expand its lightweight padding lineup, responding to climate change and increasingly varied customer preferences that have made the category a year-round outerwear staple.
The move is backed by market analysis from the Samsung Fashion Institute and sales data from the company's SSF Shop platform. The institute found that shifting seasonal boundaries driven by climate change have sharpened the "weatherless" trend — a style approach that treats outerwear as suitable for any season. It also noted growing demand for "layering," in which lightweight outer pieces are worn in combination to suit different occasions.
SSF Shop data underscored the trend: the number of customers purchasing lightweight padding on the platform surged 101 percent year-on-year between Aug. 20 and Sept. 27, a stretch marked by a prolonged late-summer heat wave. The number of customers adding the items to their shopping carts jumped 384 percent over the same period. Sales of lightweight padding in bright colors such as ivory and pastel shades also rose 82 percent.
In response, Samsung C&T Fashion said it will strengthen the lightweight padding portfolios of its in-house brands. Casual brand Eight Seconds has launched its "All Day Air" series, which uses ultra-lightweight materials while enhancing insulation and portability. The line's trendy design drew a strong young-adult response: customers in their 20s and 30s accounted for 68 percent of new Eight Seconds lightweight padding buyers on SSF Shop in the two weeks after launch.
Classic casual brand Beanpole introduced its "Better Light Down," constructed with high-density nylon and goose down to reduce weight while improving wind resistance and wearing comfort. Beanpole Ladies rounded out the lineup with a "Better Light Down Vest," while Beanpole Men added the practical shirt-style "Down Trucker Jacket." Beanpole Kids, designed with active children in mind, released the "Better Light Down" and "Light Haneum" series, both engineered for greater freedom of movement.
Contemporary women's wear brand Kuho Plus launched its "Between Outer," a minimalist, ultra-lightweight piece designed for layering. "We differentiated products and styles to match each brand's strengths, drawing on the Samsung Fashion Institute's market analysis and SSF Shop customer data," a Samsung C&T Fashion official said. "We plan to broaden the versatility of lightweight padding and lead the expansion of the multi-season outerwear market."
