Partnership aims to sharpen technical edge across all data center project phases

Companies seek to ride market growth driven by AI and cloud expansion

Hanshin Construction announced Wednesday that it has signed a strategic MOU with engineering firm Jeongdo and digital technology company Zix Technology to advance data center and digital twin-based smart construction capabilities.

The three companies entered the agreement to combine their strengths in architectural and civil construction, specialized engineering, building information modeling (BIM), and digital twin technology — positioning themselves to compete in the rapidly expanding data center market.

Data centers, which are drawing growing investment as AI and cloud industries expand, are a high-value construction segment that demands advanced technical expertise and construction quality. Large-scale power infrastructure, cooling and temperature-humidity control systems, and robust security and structural design are all required, making precise design, process management, and quality and maintenance capabilities central to market competitiveness.

Hanshin Construction plans to integrate its accumulated architectural and civil construction experience and site management capabilities with Jeongdo's specialized engineering expertise and Zix Technology's BIM and digital twin technology.

The company has previously completed projects including a 9 MW data center at the Ilsan KT Corp integrated media center, as well as major commercial facilities and transmission lines at 154 kV, 345 kV and 765 kV. It also has experience constructing infrastructure such as redundant power systems, large-capacity uninterruptible power supplies, electromagnetic pulse protection, water-cooled air conditioning and extra-high-voltage transmission lines.

Hanshin Construction plans to build a digitally integrated workflow — combining its construction experience with specialized engineering and digital technology — that connects initial design review through construction and process management to post-completion maintenance.

The company intends to use BIM for three-dimensional design and construction review, and to establish a digital twin-based integrated facility management system to catch design errors and construction conflicts before they arise, improve process coordination and raise construction efficiency. The three partners will also jointly develop and apply a data center-specific integrated engineering and smart construction solution to sharpen their competitiveness in winning contracts.

In addition, Hanshin Construction plans to strengthen its digital-based process and quality management capabilities across high-complexity, high-value construction segments including data centers, and to broaden the application of its technology into smart construction as a new engine of future growth.

"This three-way collaboration will be an opportunity to secure the technical competitiveness the future construction market demands, by combining our accumulated construction capabilities with specialized engineering and BIM and digital twin technology," a Hanshin Construction official said. "We will continue to proactively respond to the converging construction and IT environment and strengthen our competitiveness in high-value project areas such as data centers."

Meanwhile, Hanshin Construction posted consolidated revenue of 511.3 billion won ($376 million) in the first half of this year, with operating profit of 39.8 billion won and net profit for the period of 31.2 billion won.
