The National Assembly's Land and Transport Committee has approved BYD Korea chief Ding Haimiao and Tesla Korea chief Seo Young-deuk as witnesses for its upcoming national audit, seeking to question them on consumer policy and safety concerns surrounding driver-assistance systems.

The committee held a plenary session Wednesday and voted on its national audit plan as well as a list of witnesses and reference persons. During the session, calls emerged to subpoena Kim Yong-beom, former Cheong Wa Dae policy chief, and executives from Coupang Inc, but the two sides failed to reach agreement.

The committee said negotiators from both parties would hold further consultations on the remaining key witnesses each side had requested, with a decision on their subpoenas to follow.
