About 800 seniors and local residents to gather at Gwangjin Square on Thursday for commendations, performances and wellness booths
Seoul's Gwangjin-gu will host the "9988 Happy Together" commemorative event at Gwangjin Square on Thursday, bringing together about 800 seniors and local residents.
Organized by Gwangjin-gu and run by the Gwangjin Senior Welfare Center, the event is designed to honor elderly residents for their lifelong contributions to the community and to foster connection between seniors and their neighbors.
The program includes a pre-ceremony performance, a formal National Elderly Day ceremony, a community participation fair and a special invited performance.
The pre-ceremony stage will feature the Yeonghwasa Choir and pop-opera singer Gu Hyeon-mo. The formal ceremony will follow with commendations for exemplary seniors and individuals who have contributed to welfare promotion, along with guest introductions, congratulatory remarks and the unveiling of the Gwangjin Senior Welfare Center's official mascot.
The community fair will bring together 23 organizations, including the Gwangjin Dementia Care Center, to operate health and welfare information booths and hands-on activity stations. The booths are designed to give seniors and residents access to useful resources while offering a range of interactive experiences.
Alongside this, a special invited performance will entertain attending seniors, and commemorative gifts will be distributed to participants after the event concludes.
"I extend my deepest gratitude and respect to the seniors who have worked so hard for our community to make Gwangjin what it is today," Gwangjin-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said. "We will continue to roll out comprehensive welfare policies to build a Gwangjin where seniors are respected and can enjoy a healthy, vibrant daily life."
