The organizing committee of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games has apologized after a transport mix-up forced the South Korean men's volleyball team to cancel a training session.
At a press conference held Tuesday at the Main Press Center in Nagoya, organizers said the incident was caused by on-site staff who directed athletes onto the wrong buses. "It was a simple mistake," the committee said. "We take the inconvenience caused very seriously and sincerely apologize."
The committee added that it was treating the matter seriously and would thoroughly verify which team was boarding each bus and confirm destinations to prevent a recurrence.
The volleyball team boarded an organizing committee shuttle bus Monday morning for training, but the vehicle headed to the wrong venue, leaving the players unable to complete their scheduled session.
According to Kyodo News, the problem arose when transport staff directed the Pakistani delegation onto the bus meant for the South Korean team and put the South Korean delegation on the bus intended for Pakistan.
The Pakistani delegation was also sent to the wrong venue, delaying their match by about 30 minutes.
Transport-related mishaps have been a recurring problem at the Games.
The men's basketball team was unable to train on the morning of Sept. 20 — the day of the gold-medal match against Japan — after no vehicle arrived to take them to the practice facility. South Korea's under-23 men's football team also had its schedule disrupted on Sept. 16 when no transport was arranged to take them to training.
A women's volleyball classification match scheduled for Sept. 21 was delayed after the bus carrying the Vietnamese team arrived an hour and 15 minutes late.
The baseball team, frustrated by unreliable shuttle service, arranged and paid for its own private bus.
