Real-time CCTV monitoring system launched at construction sites
Guri has launched a proactive safety initiative aimed at preventing fires and accidents at construction sites to protect the lives of its residents.
The city began full operation of a real-time CCTV monitoring system for construction sites Tuesday, seeking faster and more comprehensive responses to emergency situations.
The safety measure will roll out in phases, starting at the construction site of the Galmae Community Complex Center. The system links existing on-site CCTV cameras directly to the city's disaster and safety operations center, enabling round-the-clock surveillance of eight vulnerable areas, including major entry and exit points.
Through the system, the operations center will monitor all risk factors in real time — including signs of fire and structural abnormalities — and immediately relay alerts to relevant departments and on-site personnel the moment any irregularity is detected, maintaining a tight early-response framework to prevent accidents before they occur.
The city plans to analyze the results of the initial operation, address any shortcomings identified in the field, and then expand the real-time monitoring system to all public construction sites deemed to carry significant safety risks, leaving no gaps in coverage.
"The safety of our residents is non-negotiable, and the only answer to preventing accidents is thorough preparation and proactive response," Guri Mayor Shin Dong-hwa said. "We will continue to strengthen our field-centered safety management framework, achieve zero safety accidents, and mobilize every city official to build a safe Guri where all residents can live with peace of mind every day."
