Actuary-turned-executive brings over 30 years in life insurance

AIA Life Korea announced Monday that it has named Leo Ng, CFO of AIA China, as its next CEO. Ng will officially take office after completing the required approval process.

Ng has served as CFO of AIA China since 2016 and has worked in the life insurance industry for more than 30 years, including 12 years with AIA. The company said he has held multiple senior leadership roles across Asia, building expertise in business growth, organizational transformation and managing complex operating environments.

He studied actuarial science and statistics at the University of Waterloo in Canada and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

Fisher Zhang, AIA regional chief executive and chairman of AIA Life Korea's board of directors, said Ng is "an experienced AIA leader who has demonstrated outstanding results in strategy, organizational transformation and financial leadership" with "a deep understanding of AIA's business, strategy and culture." Zhang added that "Korea is a very important market for AIA" and said he was confident Ng would "work closely with AIA Life Korea's management, employees and distribution channel partners to further develop the strengths of the current business and create long-term value for customers."

Ng said he was "deeply honored to have the opportunity to lead AIA Life Korea," adding that his first priority would be to "meet directly with employees, customers and partners to listen and learn." He said he planned to deepen his understanding of the Korean market and identify key growth opportunities, and pledged to continue advancing AIA's mission of helping people live "Healthier, Longer, Better Lives."

AIA Life Korea distributes its products and services through multiple channels, including its dedicated agency force AIA Premier Partners, general agencies, banks, telemarketing and digital platforms. The company has operated in South Korea since 1987.

Meanwhile, the appointment marks a mid-term leadership change at AIA Life Korea. Current CEO Nathan Chuang took office in 2022 and had his term renewed at a shareholders' meeting in July last year, with his tenure running through July 2028. During Chuang's tenure, AIA Life Korea established AIA Premier Partners, a subsidiary general agency, and expanded its life and health insurance product lineup.
