Oral care brand Oracode also debuts
Bioluthics, a company specializing in myrrh research, has launched M Gum Care Myrrh Toothpaste, a quasi-drug toothpaste formulated with myrrh extract.
The company introduced the product as the first release under its new oral care brand, Oracode. The toothpaste is an improved version of the original Myrrh Toothpaste that built a decade-long track record in pharmacies. It contains active compounds derived from myrrh — a natural resin used since ancient times for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties — along with Bioluthics' patented ingredient Bio-phora.
A four-week human application test on the finished product confirmed 99.9 percent antibacterial efficacy against harmful gum bacteria, including Porphyromonas gingivalis and Prevotella forsythia. The company added that the product also demonstrated improvements in the gingival index and plaque removal. It is a 130-gram quasi-drug toothpaste approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
"We developed the patented ingredient Bio-phora through extensive research aimed at maximizing the core benefits of myrrh, which has been prized since ancient times for treating inflammation and healing wounds," said Kim Jin-woo, research director at Bioluthics and a doctor of engineering. "We further enhanced the toothpaste's functionality by incorporating our proven expertise in blending verified natural ingredients."
Myrrh is a hardened resin obtained by making incisions in the bark or stems of Commiphora trees. It has been widely used in ancient Egyptian and traditional Eastern and Western medicine for preservation, pain relief, wound healing and inflammation reduction. Modern medicine has also renewed its interest in myrrh for its potent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
