WSJ cites US officials: Trump skeptical of Iranian truce proposal

US President Donald Trump has effectively rejected Iran's so-called "7-day plan," the Wall Street Journal reported Friday (local time).

Trump is skeptical of the Iranian truce proposal and has left open the possibility of resuming bombing operations against Iran after the US midterm elections in November, US officials told the Journal.

The report came shortly after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi put forward the "7-day plan" on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Iran had said that if conditions were met — including the United States ending hostilities on all fronts — transit through the Strait of Hormuz would resume within seven days.

Trump told aides he doubts Iran will meet his demands and considers it likely that bombing operations against the country will resume, the officials added.

Earlier that day, Araghchi told reporters at UN headquarters in New York that Iran had proposed a deal to Washington: the opening of the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the lifting of sanctions against Iran.
