The Yecheon Culture and Tourism Foundation opened the 2026 Yecheon Samgang Naru Jumak Festival at the Samgang Cultural Complex on Friday.

Running through Sunday, the three-day festival reimagines the stories of the peddlers, boatmen and tavern keepers who once traveled the Samgang ferry crossing, bringing them to life through performances and hands-on activities.

The festival's name reflects the redesignation of "Samgang Naru Jumak" as a national folk cultural heritage site in 2025.

The festival grounds buzzed with activity, offering experiences including a craft workshop, traditional costumes, a spinning wheel, kayaking, caricature drawing and a children's zone, alongside the Samgang Market, Haeborae Market and food trucks.

Three festival characters making their debut this year — "Dari," "Gangi" and "Jumi" — also drew visitors' attention.

An eco-friendly electric shuttle bus called the "Nageune Bus" ran between the Samgang Cultural Complex and the River Culture Exhibition Hall, making it easier for visitors to get around.

"We have brought back to life the history and human stories held within Samgang Naru Jumak through this festival," said An Byeong-yun, chairman of the foundation and Yecheon-gun county chief. "We hope you will come to Samgang with family and friends and enjoy the atmosphere of the old ferry crossing and the pleasures of the festival."
