Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province are seeing cloudy skies Thursday, the first day of this year's Chuseok holiday, under the influence of a high-pressure system.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, the temperature in Daegu stood at 27.5 degrees Celsius, while readings across North Gyeongsang Province showed Andong at 26.0 degrees, Pohang at 26.4 degrees and Yeongcheon at 26.7 degrees.
On Friday, the Chuseok holiday itself, rain is expected to begin in the morning along the northern North Gyeongsang coast facing the East Sea, spreading to the central and northern inland areas in the afternoon and extending to Daegu and southern North Gyeongsang Province by evening.
The rain is forecast to continue into the early hours of Saturday before tapering off by morning.
An official from the Daegu Regional Office of the Korea Meteorological Administration said the high-pressure system will shift eastward from Thursday afternoon, allowing mid- to upper-level cloud bands from ahead of a low-pressure system over inland China to move in and gradually increase cloud cover. "As rain is expected at various points during the Chuseok holiday, we urge drivers to take extra care on the roads," the official said.
