Actor Nana has apologized over a lip filler controversy that erupted after the release of the Netflix drama series "Scandal."

On Tuesday, Nana posted a message on Bubble, a paid fan communication platform, saying, "If my lips made people uncomfortable, it was my fault," and adding, "I think my personal choice was not appropriate for me as an actor."

She continued: "Fans who love me must have felt hurt seeing the harsh criticism. I'm even more sorry for that. I will try to make sure we hear good things together going forward."

Nana plays Huiyeon, a young widow, in "Scandal," a Netflix series that premiered Friday. The show was written by Lee Seung-young and Ahn Hye-song and directed by Jung Ji-woo.

Some viewers said they found it difficult to immerse themselves in the Sageuk drama because attention was drawn to Nana's noticeably full lips, which many attributed to filler injections.

The Netflix series "Scandal" is based on the 2003 film "Untold Scandal."

The role of Huiyeon was played by actor Jeon Do-yeon in the original film.

Nana debuted in 2009 as a member of the girl group After School before expanding into acting, appearing in drama series including "Good Wife," "Justice," "Mask Girl" and "Climax." "Scandal" marks her first foray into the Sageuk genre. Her next project is the Netflix original series "Maderessa."
